About Sweetwater Economic Development Association
MISSION STATEMENT To grow business and create jobs in Sweetwater County. VISION STATEMENT Create a vibrant, diversified, economy providing an outstanding quality of live in Sweetwater County.
The Sweetwater Economic Development Association was formed as under the Wyoming Non-Profit Corporation Act in March 1988. Since that time the Association has been known as SWEDA and has actively promoted and encouraged economic development in Sweetwater County. Starting in January 1991, SWEDA hired a Director and assistant to further their goals. The organization is governed by a 16 volunteer Board of Directors membership. From the Board members, an Executive Staff is selected which consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and two members at large. The Board holds a monthly meeting on the first Monday of the month alternating between Rock Springs and Green River. The Association consists of volunteer members that pay an annual fee for membership. The Association is funded by Sweetwater County, City of Green River and City of Rock Springs by annual appropriations. SWEDA has five active committees that meet monthly. These committees and their goals are as follows: Infrastructure Committee · Work with property owners to develop available properties · Work on getting municipal water to the Rock Springs airport · Build a “spec” building in Green River College Park · Support and assist the City of Rock Springs in developing a business/industrial park · Facilitate elected officials in the identification of further areas for growth and investigate means to develop infrastructure · Develop a high speed broadband communication network in Sweetwater County. · Monitor economic development issues, and communicate the issues and concerns to local elected officials Retention and Expansion · Assist local existing businesses · Workforce Development · Tourism Development Marketing Committee · Continuation of internal and external marketing plan for SWEDA · Use target markets and develop a focused ad campaign Long Range Planning Committee · Develop a short and a long range economic plan for Sweetwater County Target Industry and Recruitment · Use all available resources to update a target market industry list with emphasis on our natural resources and distribution · Use, as a promotional tool, the natural attributes in the area and surrounding region within a three hour drive, including skiing, hunting, fishing, and multiple outdoor recreation. · Utilizing the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy coordinate a regional cooperative effort to promote the entire southwest Wyoming region
